Question:
Has anyone had any experience controling their diabetes with a low-carb
diet? My wife has type II and is looking for a physician in the Salt Lake
City area that could support t his type of diet. Any experience or help
would be appreciated. Thanks.
Answer:
This is one of the more argued topics. Low-carb works for some
people, doesn't for others. There have been some lovely, cutthroat
threads about this, especially in misc.health.diabetes.
As a general proposition, the big names in low-carb don't have the
same carefully controlled studies that the "standard" diet has, insofar
a safety and healthfulness is concerned. The low-carb proponant tends
to blame the victim if it doesn't work for someone (i.e., "you didn't
lose weight/didn't stay on because YOU did something wrong").
As for your search for a suitable Dr., perhaps posting in
alt.support.diet.low-carb or alt.fan.cecil-adams will reach someone who
can help more. I wish you the best.
