Question:
A few months ago my brother-in-law died from diabetes complications.
During the three years prior he refused to follow his doctor's
prescribed diet regimen, and I think that his disobedience contributed
to his death.
Will you please provide references to studies of diet as it relates to
diabetes? Thanks in advance.
Answer:
I can't provide you with any studies. Perhaps someone else can. What I can
tell you is that Drs. are not authorities on nutrition. No Dr. has ever
given me any detailed dietary advice. That's what dieticians are for. But
when it comes to diabetes, the bottom line is our BG (blood glucose). And
if that's too high, it's more likely that we'll get complications. For most
of us, this is something we had to work out on our own. There is no one
diet that we all follow. A dietician is a good starting point, but a
dietician is not a BG meter. That's what it all comes down to.
