Question:
Impaired glucose tolerance is insulin resistance that is under development.
Actually, according to the ADA's new specs, which may NOT have yet reached
all parts of the organization, you ARE a diabetic. The new standard is
that diabetes is diagnosed when there are 2 Fasting Plasma Glucose tests
above 126 mg/dl. Get another test done to confirm it, OK?
Answer:
Impaired glucose tolerance is not necessarily insulin resistance at all.
It could, for instance be developing Type 1. Or, it could be the normal
for an individual and never changes throughout their life. Only in some
cases is it Type 2.
Note we are talking about a Glucose Tolerance Test, that's quite
different than a Fasting Plasma Glucose and the ADA's new specs do cover
it. The break point for GTT is set at 200 in the new specs.
