Getting health insurance to pay for diabetes supplies?

Question:
I have questions about how to get insulin and other supplies paid for by health insurance. I've heard that there are laws requiring health insurance to pay for diabetes supplies. What I need to really know, is if there is any chance of getting a health insurance plan to pay for these things without having to reach the policy's deductable first. They told me at a diabetes group that this was very possible but I can't figure out how it would be. Can anyone with a good health care policy give me some good advice on this please? Thanks...

Answer:
I live in New York and having worked for government I have a plan called Group Health Insurance which covers all my diabetic supplies. Every two months like clockwork, they send me strips. My medication is paid for by my union which has a $5.00 co pay. And although I am retired, I will have these benefits for the rest of my life which I hope will be long. I am 56 And as a matter of fact my health insurance company scouted me. They wrote me to ask if I had diabetes because they were setting up a new program. I said yes they sent some forms and I was enrolled. Every state has different inusrance coverages. Do you belong to an hmo they may have a diabetic plan to pay for drugs and equiipment.
