Can you tell me about diabetes blood test levels?

Question:
If you are on the border line for having diabetes after having a blood test, what are the levels that are normal, and what level is critical for acquiring it??????? I live in Australia and I think the levels go 5.7, 5.8, thru to 6, which may be the line is this correct.

Answer:
Unacceptable control: 7 mmol/L or more before meals 11 mmol/L or more after meals Satisfactory control: 6 - 7 mmol/L before meals 11 mmol/L after meals Ideal control: 3 - 6 mmol/L before meals up to 8 mmol/L 2 hours after meals Normal: 3 - 8 mmol/L Risk of hypoglycaemia: less than 3 mmol/L - if insulin or diabetes tablests are used, but does not apply to people controlled by meal plans alone.

I had lots of support and guidance from Cabrini hospital and I would recommed the book by Diabetes Australia called 'Diabetes & You, The Essential Guide'
