Question:
Is the bodies blood sugar level a measure of energy?
In otherwords is this where our body gets its first source of energy and if
our blood sugar is low will we not perform as well during excercise?
Answer:
Even in those with intact pancreatic function, excess refined carb
consumption will cause high blood glucose levels. The high blood
glucose levels will be followed by high insulin levels which cause the
body to store the blood glucose as fat which thus reduces the blood
glucose levels back to normal. High blood glucose in a normal healthy
person is not a fixed level at all times. After a meal the blood
glucose levels increase, the insulin secreted increases and the bgl
comes back down.
Those with syndrome x, pre-diabetes or diabetes t2 will have a more
pronounced bgl spike and it will take longer for the bgl to revert to
normal levels. That is a result of insulin resistance after years of
the receptors being bombarded by excess insulin from a chronically high
carb diet. And the pancreas will eventually be unable to produce
insulin in sufficient quantities as it burns itself out trying to rid
itself of excess bg from and chronically excess of dietary carbs.
