Question:
Adult, Type II for 2.5 years.
Without any of the typical pre-existing factors present, obesity, lethargy,
Mac-Diet, family history, all abscent....except for very hi stress levels
(essentially from working for assholes & having ones ethics/integrity
challenged for 3 years).
I'm attempting to see if there is any link between stress and the onset of
adulthod type II onset.
If you have any personal tesimony to this, or can point me in the dirrection
of any research pointing this way, greatly appreciated.
Answer:
While you're poking around for the causes of your Type 2, perhaps you
should ask for another look to see if you are an adult-onset Type 1.
The non-obese, non-sedentary, adult onset Type 2 don't seem to react to
Type 2 oral meds as favorably as the more traditional T2. Some medical
folks postulate that they don't react to Type 2 meds because they are Type
1.
An adult-onset T1 honeymoon can last for years and mimic Type 2 symptoms all
the while.
You might get some some real surprises if you managed to convince your doc
to run:
a. GAD antibodies (positive suggests T1)
b. C-peptide (low suggests T1)
c. Simultaneous Fasting Insulin and Fasting Blood sugar
HOMA = Fasting Insulin x Fasting Blood Sugar/22.5
When F.I. is milli-International Units/mL and
FbG is mg/dL
A HOMA value less then 30 suggests T1
it might be very useful to settle this question. Adult-onset T1
honeymoons can end in life-threatening Diabetic Ketoacidosis if folks
dilly-dally over starting insulin when the sugars start to drift out of
control. Or, you might do what I did. . .have a really, really miserable
year with high blood sugars partially controlled by torture and starvation
(the T1 version of the T2 Diet and Exercise routine).
