Question:
The main question I have, it appears that pregnancy can be dealt with
as a normal process for diabetic mothers IF it is planned for and monitored.
If this is so, why can't birth control pills be used, which in essence,
make the body think it is a little pregnant all the time? It would
appear that a constant level of birth control pill intake would be easier
to monitor and control than would be an actual pregnancy, where there
may be daily, hourly variations and demands due to the baby's development.
The dilema is that, without an effective method of birth control(THE
PILL), pregnancy may be a reality.
All of this may be based on completely erroneous info. Can someone
set me straight? My daughter's endo. Doctor, says no pills. I really
don't know why.
Answer:
I am a Type II and have been pregnant twice. I can tell you two thing
about the birth control pills. 1. They can sometimes cause an
elevation in some individuals. And 2. They are not always as reliable
in some instances. I took the pill for three years before being diagnosge)
without any problems. After about a year, I got pregnant. (Actually, been
both my babies are pill babies). The Pill seems to be an individual
thing. If it doesn't make your BG rise, and it seems to work for you,
go for it. :
As for tight control. The closer you can get to normal levels, the e
better. I managed tight control through both of my pregnancies. Not
all diabetics require c-sections. Large babies (normally due to high HMOs),
maternal glucose levels) precipitate c-sections. I had both of mine on
without the need for surgery. One weighed 6lbs 10 oz, the other 7lbs
11 oz. Diabetics can be more at risks for certain complications, but
with good care, many can be avaoided completely (or at least caught
early. ll.
Now days, you can get pregnant without worrying about dying. obably
You can also usually use birth control pills without trouble. I'm ectly,
an exception to the rule. My OB gave me the odds of having pill ption
problems like I did. It was infinitely small. Don't worry if that's
what you want to do. Just watch you BGs for awhile to make sure they
don't dramatically increase.
The best advise I can give to anyone is to READ, READ, READ. I read
everything I can get my hands on. Knowledge is power.
