Question:
what i'd like 2 know is what do u think is or would be the best form of
birth control 4 a female diabetic? i'm thinking about going on the
DEPO-PROVERA shot......my Gyn. told me about it but i'm still a little
skeptical...does ANYONE here have any info or website availible about
diabetic womens health or birth control options? I would REALLY
appreciate any help you folks can provide.
Answer:
ALL birth control shots and pills say that they can affect BG, and my
doctor reminded me every time I went in for my next shot that it may be
why I was having trouble controlling my BG. However, as soon as I
switched to a doctor that actually KNEW something about diabetes, and
got on the right medications, I got my BG under much better control.
I don't know if it *really* affects my BG or not, but, as far as it
goes, I *LOVE* the shots -- no more menstruation! (you're supposed to
get spotting when you come due for another shot, but I don't even get
that).
It is also so much more convenient, especially if you aren't
needlephobic (who can be when you're taking insulin 3x a day? ). I
go see my doc every 3 months, get shot in the arm, and thats it. No
need to remember to take yet another pesky pill every day.
And, as far as cost goes, DepoProvera still wins hands down. Up here
in Canada, full cost on the Depo shot is about $40 every 3 months. The
pills cost around $20 per month...
